The Lock Is Written Before Image One
A film is a track and every shot runs on the same rails, so 1 template is filled before image 1 and nothing is rendered until it is locked. The lens that opens a scene is the lens that closes it, and if a shot needs something the template does not contain then the template was wrong and is fixed rather than the shot.
The Track And The Rails
A film is a track, and every shot runs on the same rails. The track is the template, the rails are the locked decisions, and the train is the renderer firing stills in order. Without the template, every shot is a different film. The first shot is a 35 mm warm tungsten interior. The second shot is a 50 mm cold daylight exterior. The third shot is a 24 mm at noon. The cuts read as mistakes because the cuts are mistakes. The viewer feels a flicker even when the viewer cannot name the cause. The fix is not better prompts. The fix is 1 locked template filled before image 1, and 1 rule that no shot is rendered until the template is signed off. The cost of skipping the template is not 1 minute. It is the entire film, because the look drifts across shots and the piece stops looking like itself by frame 30. 1 track. 1 set of rails. 1 train.
The LoRA Is 5 Decisions Bundled
A LoRA, in this method, is a named style preset. It is not a neural network file. It is a bundle of 5 decisions that make 1 film look like 1 film, written on 1 page and held for every shot. Decision 1 is the lenses. The focal-length ladder is locked per beat-group. A wide beat-group runs 24 mm and 35 mm. A mid beat-group runs 50 mm. A close beat-group runs 85 mm. The ladder is the same on shot 1 and shot 47. Decision 2 is the temperature. The climate, the time of day and the Kelvin value are written per scene and pulled from the Temperature Bible. A night interior at 2700 K stays at 2700 K for every shot in the room. A dawn exterior at 4500 K stays there for the whole dawn sequence. Decision 3 is the look. Depth of field, composition language, camera movement vocabulary, film stock, grain. The look carries through the edit because the look was defined before the first frame. Decision 4 is the palette. 1 signature colour. Flat capture in post, grade in post. The flat capture is the discipline; the grade is the half of the pipeline that turns flat into the signature. Decision 5 is the wardrobe. The locked costumes match the temperature. A 2700 K interior gets warm wardrobe. A 4500 K dawn gets cool wardrobe. The temperature and the wardrobe are paired in the template, not on the day. 5 decisions. 1 bundle. 1 name.
The 12-Row Template, Filled In Order
The template is 12 rows filled before image 1. Row 1 is the film title and the song. Row 2 is the LoRA name. Row 3 is the one feeling the whole piece serves. Rows 4 to 12 are the production fields. Row 4 is the format. 35 mm, 16 mm, IMAX 65 mm or HD-digital, with the grain, the aspect ratio, the resolution and the depth locked together. The format is decided once and not revisited. Rows 5 to 7 are the lenses, the temperature and the scenes. The scenes are the beat breakdown in order, with the anticipation arc. The lens ladder and the temperature per scene are written into this block before any still is fired. Rows 8 to 10 are the locations, the characters and the light. Locations are fully named: which room, which windows, what light it gets, what time. Characters carry identity plus body blocks: face, ethnicity, skin, hair, wardrobe and anatomy, plus the wish, the insecurity and the motivation. Light is the key direction per scene from the Light Direction and Blocking bible. Rows 11 and 12 are the palette, the look, the negative and the renderer. The palette is the signature colour. The look is depth of field, framing, movement, film stock and grain from the LoRA. The negative is Tier 1 global on every render, plus Tier 2 body and anatomy on nude and sexual work. The renderer is the named tool per asset class. 12 rows. Fill in order. No row is left blank.
Lock Once, Then Never Change
The track-consistency rule is 3 sentences and they are non-negotiable. Sentence 1: lock once, then never change. The lens that opens a scene is the lens that closes it. The temperature that lights a room is the temperature of every shot in the room. A wardrobe item never changes colour between shots. Sentence 2: the template is the film. Every shot card is filled from the template, not beside it. If a shot needs something the template does not contain, the template was wrong, and the template is fixed rather than the shot. Sentence 3: the LoRA is the look fingerprint. The LoRA style block is prepended to every prompt so every still carries the same lens, the same temperature, the same look, the same palette. The block is loaded into every generation like a reselectable preset. 3 sentences. They sit at the top of the template page in 1 font. Every renderer reads them before the first render and every editor reads them before the first cut. The rule is cheap to enforce because the rule is cheap to test. 1 eyeball check on shots 1, 12, 24 and 36 is enough to catch a drift, and a drift caught at shot 12 is a 5 minute fix. A drift caught at the final cut is a rebuild.
A film is a track. Every shot runs on the same rails, so the template is filled before image 1 and never edited in post.
The Nolan Default And The Reselect
The default LoRA is Nolan. It is the flagship preset and it is built first because it covers the most common documentary register: 35 mm, warm tungsten interiors, 24 mm and 35 mm wide with 50 mm mid and 85 mm close, the 1 signature colour held flat in capture, celluloid grain and the half-stop negative fill on faces. Once the Nolan preset exists, the next film is not a rebuild. It is a reselect. Pick the Nolan preset, name the film, fill the 12 rows, fire the first still. The look is consistent shot after shot because the preset is the same preset. A second film wants a different look. Pick the Deakins preset, or the Wong Kar-wai preset, or the Malick preset. The 5 decisions change, the structure stays, the template is the same template. 4 presets, 4 looks, 1 method. The method is the asset. The preset is the choice. A film that ships with the Nolan preset reads as 1 film because every shot was rendered against the same 5 decisions. A film that skips the preset reads as 47 different films, and the viewer feels the seam even when the viewer cannot name the seam.
The One Rule That Matters
Define the template before the first image, and never break it. Lenses, temperatures, scenes, locations, characters, palette, look and renderer are locked once and held for the whole film. The template is the track. Every shot runs on it. Pick a LoRA, reselect it for the next film, and the consistency comes free. The repair pattern when a shot goes wrong is 1 sentence. If the shot card asks for something the template does not carry, the template was wrong, and the template is fixed rather than the shot. The discipline of fixing the template first is what stops the same mistake from repeating on shot 14 and shot 27. 30 years of building, in 12 countries, under 2 rules: work with what the constraint allows, and refuse the version that looks better on paper than it can look in the room. Built companies across twelve countries. Restructured an industrial group. Deployed 210 energy systems. Took a company through a Frankfurt IPO. Built 200 wood-gasification machines. Signed a personal guarantee on a company that folded on Christmas Day 2008. In the building for the 2003 blackout. 393 pages in paperback, published 8 April 2026. The probability that an loose template drifts across 50 shots is close to 1. The probability that a locked template drifts across 50 shots is close to zero, and most teams are still pricing the second probability as though it were high. 5 decisions. 12 rows. 3 sentences. 1 LoRA. The whole method fits on 1 page, and the page is filled before image 1, and the page is never edited in post.
5 decisions make 1 film look like 1 film. Lenses, temperature, look, palette and wardrobe are locked once and held for the whole piece.
