Pick One Register And Stay In It

There are 2 ways a still can be beautiful and they cancel each other out. Choose 1 before the first render, because the model will not choose for you.

01

Two Registers And One Decision

The glamour half runs on porcelain skin, flawless and airbrushed and idealized, 1 hard key with almost no fill and coloured shadows underneath, hyper-saturated colour, the subject on the diagonal in a frontal power stance with a gaze that goes straight down the lens and owns the frame. The truth half is the opposite along every axis. Natural texture with visible pores and no retouch, split with a window and negative fill, a flat capture pushed into a celluloid grade, centred and shallow, the subject inside the world and aware of the room rather than of the lens. Pick 1 deliberately. Never blur the 2. This is where almost everybody loses the shot, and the loss is verbal rather than technical. Beautiful, photorealistic, natural skin texture is what most people write on the first attempt, and that clause describes the truth register every single time. Reach for glamour with it in hand and you get documentation instead. The instruction is doing exactly what it says. It is simply not what you meant. So the register lives in the keyword. Documentary film, 35 mm, natural skin texture. Porcelain skin, airbrushed, hyper-saturated. Write 1 of those at the head of every prompt in the set and the set stays in its own register.

02

The Face Is The One Thing You Cannot Prompt

1 canonical face anchor per subject, chosen once and reused for every shot that subject appears in. 2 subjects never share 1 anchor. The file is the identity, and it is the only object in the pipeline that cannot be rebuilt out of text. The face is sacred. Describe facial features in a prompt and the model re-invents them on every render, which is how a set ends up reading as several strangers in the same clothes. Body corrections are a different class of change. Bust, hair and wardrobe notes are prompt-level and reversible, and taking the note out brings the shot back. A drifted face does not come back. There is nothing on the other side of that mistake. This is why the rubric puts face accuracy at a floor of 95 while everything else sits at 85 and 80. It is the 1 gate with no exceptions and no negotiated average. Eyes, nose, lips and jawline match the anchor, or the render is rejected and re-fired, however good the light was. 95 is the floor. There is nothing underneath it.

03

Write The Block Before The First Image

Before image 1 the set gets a style block: the lens, the colour temperature in Kelvin, the look, the palette, the wardrobe, the negative block and the renderer. Write it down once. Every shot loads the same block, and no shot gets to improvise its own light. The figures matter because they are the part people skip. A room at 3200 Kelvin stays at 3200 Kelvin until the scene ends, a day exterior sits near 5600 Kelvin, and the same figure rides on every shot inside the scene it belongs to. The next scene gets its own number rather than an inherited 1. Negatives run in 2 tiers. Tier 1 is always on, and it carries the register-specific rejects. Natural skin texture, visible pores, warm sepia and creamy vintage all belong on a glamour render. Warm tan, gold jewellery, amber light and sepia all belong on a black and white 1. Tier 2 comes on for body and nude shots. The anchor travels as the reference input on every fire. The style block travels as text. Neither 1 replaces the other, and a set that has only the block renders the same stranger in 12 lighting setups.

04

7 Dimensions And 7 Floors

7 dimensions get scored on every render, and each 1 has its own floor. Face accuracy against the anchor sits at 95. Register correctness is 85, which means the render reads as glamour or reads as truth and never as the space between them. Light is 85, and 90 is the shape of it when it works: a hard key on the glamour side, a motivated natural source on the truth side, named and consistent across the set rather than present and accidental. Composition is 80. Colour and grade are 85. Anti-AI is 90. Impact is 85. The last 2 get argued about and they are the 2 that should not. Anti-AI at 90 means no waxy skin, no extra fingers, no text, no morph. Impact at 85 means the image does something to the person looking at it. Agency, or tension, or longing. An image that only looks pretty has not scored. A render at 6 of 7 is not nearly there. It is a render that stops the set, because 1 of those dimensions does more work than the other 6 and the work is the face.

Beautiful and photorealistic is the instruction that buys you the wrong register.

05

Diagnose Before You Rebuild

4 failure modes cover most of the wreckage, and each 1 names its own fix. The face drifted. That is the 95-floor failure and it is the only 1 that sends you back to the anchor rather than to the prompt, because reworking the text against a broken reference burns renders and returns a set of people who resemble nobody in particular. The register is wrong. Somebody wrote natural skin texture into a glamour prompt, and the render obeyed. Register correctness is the 85 floor, and the way to reach it is to read the keyword back before anything else moves. The grade flipped warm when the frame should be cool. Black and white renders drift amber first, which is why 1 script re-grades any new frame rather than 1 renderer holding the line by accident. Two tones of skin on white fabric. Add the anti-bleach negatives and state that the same skin tone holds across the entire body, because the fabric changes the exposure and the model reads the change as skin. Diagnose, then rebuild. Rebuilding without a diagnosis is a re-roll with extra steps.

06

Verify The Frame Before You File It

Verification is not a glance and it is not optional. Read the render back against the anchor and check the hair, the skin and the face. Then check the register, the body spec and the grade. A render that passes on the face and fails on the grade goes back, because the grade is what the rest of the set gets judged against afterwards. The black and white register has its own sequence of 7 steps. Strip every hue and cool the mid-gray, because a neutral-warm gray reads as a mistake rather than as a decision. Lift skin toward alabaster and pull the reds and yellows down. Raise the specularity on silk until it reads as liquid metal. Crush the suit, the hair and the shadows to ink. Push a hard S-curve with as few mid-tones as the frame allows. Keep jewellery on silver spark and let no gold cast through. Then re-grade every new frame through the same script rather than by hand, because the hand drifts and the script does not. Here is the arithmetic behind all of it. Built companies across 12 countries. Restructured a industrial group. Deployed 210 energy systems across Africa and Asia. Took a company through a Frankfurt IPO. 16 years of field work from rural Nigeria to Fukushima. Entrade built 200 wood-gasification machines across the UK and Europe. Signed a personal guarantee on a company that folded on Christmas Day 2008, and lost savings in the 2013 Cyprus bail-in. 393 pages in paperback and Kindle, published 8 April 2026. None of it shipped on 1 good day. The probability that a set with 1 drifted face reads as 1 person is close to 0. The probability that the anchor fixes it is close to 1. Most people price both at 0 and pay the difference in the re-renders, on the night the set is due. Lock the face. Lock the register. Then shoot simply, and never blur the 2.

The face comes from the anchor. It never comes from the prompt.
