Four Drafts Of The Same Seventy Nine Seconds

Four cut lists exist for one 16:9 film, and all four were written on 2026-09-11. They weigh 15,838, 16,918, 17,013 and 17,013 bytes. The first landed at 15:54:16.306. The second followed 145.929 seconds later. The third came 505.608 seconds after that. The fourth arrived 796.575 seconds after the third. First to last is 1448.112 seconds, 24 minutes and 8.112 seconds of writing. The file grew 1,080 bytes, then 95 bytes, then zero. The last two drafts are the same size to the byte. They are not the same document: four files, four SHA-256 hashes, three distinct sizes. Each one carries the same 18 top-level keys and the same 34 leaf values. Four folders numbered 01 to 04 sit inside the archive of a single cut, and the cut they describe is 78.86 seconds long.

Line the four files up against each other and 23 cells move: 10 between the first pair, 7 between the second, 6 between the third. Only 10 of the 34 paths ever hold a different value. The other 24 never do. What moves is the generated stamp, the slug, the four output paths, the pick array, the total duration, the source count and the source project list. What does not move is the deliverable: 16:9, 1920 by 1080, 24 frames a second, minus 16 LUFS, written the same way in all four. Nor does the score, one mp3 file of 206.160978 seconds. Nor the words: the hook and the call to action hold the same sentence, keep more of yourself for longer. Nor the shape: 12 beats and an empty gaps list, in every draft. Four revisions, 23 cell moves, and not one of them touched the brief.

Every draft carries the same 12 target lengths: 8, 8, 6, 6, 6, 5, 5, 5, 7, 7, 10 and 10 seconds. They add to 83.0. That sum is identical in all four files. The declared total duration is not. The first draft says 83.0. The second, third and fourth say 78.86. Three of the four disagree with their own beat sheet by 4.14 seconds. At 24 frames a second the first draft asks the renderer for 1,992.00 frames. The other three ask for 1,892.64. That is 99.36 frames of disagreement over a sheet that never changed once. The theme field, the title field and the label field are identical in all four files, so the four drafts also agree on what the film is about. They differ on how long it is.

The first draft fills its 12 beats from 7 distinct files, all of them in one project, and counts 7 sources across 1 project. The second, third and fourth drafts fill the same 12 beats from 12 distinct files drawn from 5 projects: 3 from Apocalypse, 5 from Sal_y_Miel, 2 from Salvador, 1 from Songs and 1 from TikTok Short-Film. Their source count reads 11 because 12 picks name 11 files. Nothing else about the picks moves. The 12 notes are identical across all four files. The 12 lengths are identical. The function sequence is identical: two establish, three build, three turn, two reveal, two payoff. Exactly one beat is marked as a hold in every draft. File names run 57 characters in the first draft and 54 to 124 in the other three. Four drafts, one timetable, one note sheet, two sourcing decisions.

Each draft has a rendered file in its folder. They weigh 28,033,437, 21,178,047, 21,194,430 and 22,050,360 bytes, a spread of 6,855,390 bytes, 24.45 per cent of the heaviest. The declared length is 78.86 seconds in three of them and 83.0 in the first. The files report their own duration: 61.6, 19.199, 19.208333 and 19.199 seconds. Their video streams hold 1,447, 459, 460 and 458 frames at 24 frames a second. Three drafts that declare 78.86 seconds carry 19.2 seconds of picture, 458 to 460 frames where the sheet asked for 1,892.64. Bitrates run 3,640,706, 8,824,645, 8,827,181 and 9,188,128 bits a second. The two title cards in every folder are byte-identical: 21,858 and 21,812 bytes, four times over. The cards never changed, and neither did the film's length in the folder beside them. The drafts kept being written after the picture was already 19 seconds long.

Every folder holds review notes. They weigh 4,663, 4,887, 4,974 and 4,974 bytes, and all four were written on 2026-09-23 at 18:42:03, ten days after the cut lists, within 3 milliseconds of each other. One pass wrote all four. The edit decision lists weigh 3,473, 3,781, 3,777 and 3,777 bytes. The first two differ; the third and fourth are the same file to the byte. The Final Cut documents weigh 5,748, 5,887, 5,887 and 5,887 bytes, so drafts two, three and four share one timeline. Every draft also writes down where its output lives: five paths, all of them inside the working folder. The working folder holds none of the four. The cut lists, the films, the timelines and the notes all sit in the archive, in folders 01 to 04. Two trees, four drafts, four hashes, one film. Nothing on disk ranks them and no probability is written beside any of the four. A person still has to say which one it is.
